I can play well, but my tone is very bad at times. I can strainght and smooth arc, but Sometimes the tone just sucks.; Any suggestions?
It's really hard to diagnose without seeing and hearing a play, but I have a list of things I look with my students. Have another work cellist of his instrument with the bow itself – if they have a bad taste (but not usually), then it might be his instrument, his bow, resin, and / or chains. If someone sounds a lot better on your instrument without changing any of those things, then you are. Most likely related arc. Is your bow straight – Parallel to the bridge? It's really difficult to know when you're playing, so a large mirror, video yourself or have someone look in the face. Where is your bow between the bridge and the fingerboard? You may be too high or too low. What about the arm / power and speed of the bow? heavy or too excess light can damage the pitch, so you can too fast or too slow. scales long, slow tone exercises focus on what needs above care factor will help. Play something where all you have to think about is the tone and the notes are long enough so that you really can "settle in" a good tone in each note. With practice, it will get better and easier. Try a different type of resin, too. Sometimes it is so easy, if everything else is in check.
