Normal hand weights: weight wise, how much should a 14 year old girl lift to tone up?
There are so many weights available on the market:
1lb-2lb
5lb-10lb
and so on. What would be the best weights to lift for me? and why?
Weights do not depend on your age or gender, but your goals and current strength. You should have a list of exercises to try out (you will not use just one weight for all exercises). Try out: bicep curl, one-handed tricep overhead extension, bench press, bent row, and military press. Look them up online to make sure that you’re doing them right.
Once you’ve written down the exercises and remembered how to do them, go to a store that sells weights, or go to your school’s gym for free. Your goal is to tone up, so you want to do 12-15 reps per set. Find a weight for each exercise that makes the last few reps difficult to do. This is the weight you should start out with. Write the weight down next to the exercise in your notebook…start this as your workout log.
Once you start to notice that the weights are easier and you can do more and more reps with the same weight, that’s when it is time to go up in weight.
Follow these simple steps and you’ll notice a gain in strength and tone quickly. This way, you won’t be wasting your time, energy, and money by just playing around with 2lb weights. 
EDIT: Don’t listen to Diamsus, he’s just jealous because he’s insecure. You’ll learn that there are men out there that rely on stupid concepts of “masculinity” (aka, they just act like jerks because they don’t know how to be valuable human beings). Consider yourself lucky that guys like that will not try to hit on you. Notice that he won’t accept email…what a big, tough, manly man!
