Discover the fruits of your holiday destination – The naseberry
One of the great pleasures of a vacation in a villa, house or apartment rather complex, especially an all inclusive resort is that you get the chance to meet local people and try something local. In large hotels and resorts, the management play it safe and give your customers the same old things. You can be in any of a number of destinations and if the staff of the complex is not mentioned by name at your destination, you could be forgiven for thinking you were somewhere else.
Beach Vacation in tropical climates are very popular during the winter months, especially with the Americans. The lure of white sandy beaches dotted with coconut trees under a warm sunny sky is hard to resist. But even the most fervent worshipers of the sun become concerned after a couple of days of sun on the beach and wonder what to do for fun.
There are water sports and of course, depending on destination, there will be local attractions and attractions that have to do and see. But there is more you can do that does not cost a lot and I am sure you will find very interesting.
You can discover all sorts of exotic fruits, some of which have probably never seen or heard talk about before, much less proven. In March, in Jamaica can be shown watermelons, Gros Michel bananas, pineapples, apples Tahiti, papayas, grapefruits, oranges, jackfruits, mangoes, star apples, and naseberries.
What a thrill to taste all these exotic fruits! You may think that some of these fruits are very common and have right, but what you buy in supermarkets in North America do not have the same taste as you will in this tropical destination. Even an orange will surprise you. To begin, it is not orange, but any combination of green, yellow and brown. And the taste – well, just to prove a real orange in the tropics to appreciate it.
But let me introduce you to a result that probably have never heard of yet only tested – one of my favorites, the medlar. In some countries, as Trinity, called loquat, and India is called the chikoo. It looks like a small potato with a rough brown skin. Wikipedia says: "The fruit has a character exceptionally sweet malt flavor. Many believe that the taste is much like Carmelo. "
Do not be surprised if most people reading this have never heard of naseberries, but have visited Silver Sands Jamaica many times. They are now in season (March) so if you're there, ask your housekeeper or cook or driver to get you some naseberries. Or better yet, go to the market and the impressive higglers naseberries asking.
Naseberries harvested when mature and mature tree. The ripe fruit is softened, and just break it with your fingers to reveal a brown clear to the bright red flesh with black seeds. Some people eat the skin but I find it a little hard. Discard seeds and pulp juicy pop in your mouth. It is so sweet that the late Forbes Burnham, Guyana's former Prime Minister, once said that "only a woman is as sweet as the sapote"!
Tastiing fruits when in local villages of Jamaica is one of those small but important pleasures you can enjoy your holiday tropical.
