Silver Ornate
Whats best for cleaning an ornate cast iron fire ?
I have an working cast iron fireplace i’ve been lighting it a lot more than usual due to the cold weather. Now the black part looks dull and the silver parts are tarnished due to the heat. I’ve tried silver polish but that’s not really helping. Is it ruined forever ?
You can get a polish called Zebo (?) for the cast iron parts – if it really is genuine cast iron
That is what they used to use on the Black lead grates , and it is still available – try Wilco/ Wilkinsons
Tooth paste is always a good stand by to remove or polish out stains on metal and plastic parts
If the silver parts have turned blue fading through to Yellow then the heat has caused oxide layers to form and it will need to be polished back ( if it is Stainless Steel and not chrome plated) with car cutting paste or Jeweller’s rouge- it is hard work by hand a soft cloth or polishing mop on an electric drill will work if you are careful- test a small area first
