Is it normal for natural gemstones to be scratched?
Yesterday I had gotten my ruby ring (natural) at Jared’s and when the gave it to me I had noticed that they are a couple of little scatches in the ring. So you think I should not worry about it right? I mean a least I don’t have cracks.
All minerals can be scratched, providing the object that does the scratching is harder than the mineral being scratched. Your ruby (the mineral corundum) has a hardness of 9, which is very hard but not impossible to scratch. For example the hardest mineral diamond, hardness of 10, can scratch a ruby.
