How I can convert copper carbonate anhydrous copper sulfate crystals with chemical reactions?
I am always with 10 grams of copper carbonate, sodium sulphate of copper (II) chloride and concentrated sulfuric acid. Also I have full use of all standard laboratory equipment. I need at least two chemical equations, ie, two chemical reactions.
Metal carbonates react with acids to produce carbon dioxide, water and metal salt acid. Thus, copper sulfate can be produced by reaction of copper (II) carbonate with concentrated sulfuric acid. This is due to instability of carbonic acid: CuCO3 + H2SO4 —> CuSO4 + H2CO3 —> CuSO4 + H2O + CO2 (copper carbonate CuCO3 is supposed to simplify, though never is – always has something hydroxide or water associated with it) When using this equation, it can cut part on the way to do: + CuCO3 H2SO4 —> CuSO4 + CO2 + H2O However, this equation is somewhat misleading. There will probably be enough water in the reaction mixture to form a hydrate.
