Crafted Oval
What style cedar chest is carved with two tones on the front simple, abstract floral design?
I can not remember the style of dealer said it was the end of the auction and he was a little tired, too. Thought said Craftsman or Arts & Crafts. It is Lane cedar chest, putting in after 1912. This would not be true Arts and Crafts, from what I've seen on the net. The font on the label insurance is stapled inside resembles more a decade 1940 for me. I'm like a rookie, however, and apart from this, they have little idea of what year or style. I emailed the company but I am not looking to buy, I'm sure if the answer will come. Again, the hallmarks of the style are basically carved floral design and carving the border at the bottom, a little lily-like pattern with oval circle widened between them and the fact that there is a quality two-tone set in the front panel. In addition, there turned legs and could do with a lathe, and the trunk lid is beveled. Thanks for any pointers you can give on this!
